Lee, Grzegorz Rasiak and Jermaine Jenas - all snapped up at the end of August's transfer window - made their debuts against the European champions while Aaron Lennon made his first start after a couple of substitute appearances.
The South Korean full-back was an instant hit with a number of eye-catching raids down the left flank in the first half.
Jermaine slotted seamlessly into midfield and Polish striker Grzegorz almost marked his debut with a goal - his header in the 40th minute cannoned back off the crossbar before he powered home Michael Carrick's corner in the second half only for the linesman to flag for the ball going out of play before it reached its target.
Head Coach Martin reflected: "Lee was exactly what I had in mind. I wanted someone who could get forward on the flanks and he did that - he will get his crosses in.
"If the supporters didn't know him beforehand they must have been pleased with what they saw and that's what he's always done when he played in Holland - he's a good defender, he comes forward and he has some extra quality, so that was pleasing.
"Grzegorz played two games in four days for Poland. I asked him how he felt and he said he felt good, so he's very positive and in two situations in the box he showed exactly what I want from him.
"If we get the crosses in, he'll score goals. We saw that with the corner kick and when he hit the crossbar. I think he's a very good addition to the squad.
"We had four players making their full debuts and you shouldn't forget that Ledley King hadn't played in the league this year. He started for the first time. It was a bit of a worry beforehand but I like to think I have a bit of Dutch courage! There were plenty of positives for us."
